|
The original collection of Hesse materials, consisting of about 1300 items, was purchased by the University of California in the summer of 1959 from Horst Kliemann of Munich.
The Department of German at UC Berkeley has continued to add relevant materials, purchased largely from the Ella Castelhun Fund. Professor Mileck is responsible for the development of the collection, which includes first and subsequent editions of Hesse’s writings; translations; first and subsequent appearances of his work in periodicals and compilations; books edited, compiled, or introduced by Hesse; books and articles about Hesse, including unpublished dissertations; microfilm, clippings, photographs, sheet music, phonograph records, and original water colors. |
