I have an original copy of Sinclairs Notizbuch by Hesse and I am trying to discover more about it, but unfortunately I do not speak German and I would like to ask for your advice.
The book is in German, published in 1923 by Rascher &
Cie AG, Verlag, Zurich. The edition is a limited edition numbered 135 out of 1100 and has a pencil signature by Hesse, and contains several signed water colour illustrations that also seem original rather than printed.
I've looked on the 'net, but have been unable to find anything in English about Sinclairs Notizbuch, but I have read alot about Hesse himself. Can you suggest any sites, links or further reading?
I assume because of its age and the signature that the book is fairly valuable. Would you have any idea where I could have it valued or would anyone like to make me an offer?
I can be reached at cabinfeeva@hotmail.com
Many thanks.

Friends of mine who are familiar with the used-book market in Europe estimate the current value of your book at approximately 600 German marks ($300 or ~300 Euros after Jan.1, 2002). The water colors are not originals although they seem to be, as you noted. My friends suggest that you offer the book in the internet, if you actually plan on selling it. You might obtain the best price by offering it directly to collectors and museums, for example to the one in Montagnola at hesse.museo@ticino.com. The Hesse Page would be glad to put the description and your address on its subpage "Collectors' Items" as a free service to readers of Hesse.
