And then?

Okay, hessophiles. Are there any other authors you feel are comparable in style/subject to HH that are worth reading?

Although HH seems quite unique I think that Thomas Mann resembles him both in subject and in style. What I would be interested in is his novel "The Glassballs Game" ( if this is the enlish translation of it) and a possible interpretation of the maestro.

Specifically Thomas Mann's "Dr. Faustus" might be interesting for you. Compare its themes and treatment with those of "The Glass Bead Game". In style and temperament Mann and Hesse are quite different, but they were good friends, and there is an interesting book in German on their correspondence. You might also look at the introduction by Mann in the English translation of "Demian".
