Hesse Violinist Reply to this post

Help! I am looking for the Hesse story (fairy tale?) in which a violinist disappears into music. If you know the title of this piece, please post it. THANKS!

Were you thinking of "Flute Dream" ("Floetentraum," in: Die Maerchen), a beautiful and pensive little fairy tale? The music instrument is not a violin, of course, but the theme you refer to is present, at least it is hinted at.

I think it's a short story called Faldum, its published under a collection entitled Strange News from Another Star. The violinist is granted a wish, ie that he be given a violin on which he could play such music that he would be able to escape from the world.
