Mark of Cain Reply to this post

What is everyone's interpretation of the Mark of Cain as described in Demian? Is there anyone here that follows Hesse's philosophy as laid down in his books? If so, how would you define someone who had the Mark of Cain?
Feel free to elaborate.

i think that this mark is a sign of knowledge , awareness about humanity and being a kind of rebel against cheap visions and a strong wish to reach the highness.
this mark can only be seen by people who have this mark.

i beleive that is something greater than just a human sign ,
i suspect is embeded in society o r even depper into the soul of the world , is like genetic material attached to what in the beginnig was part of the world and from it , the 1st human or
human like civilization inherited and perhaps from there we can trace the mark of cain , a wave of consiuness that spreads freely in the air throughout the ages .
if someone would bear this mark it had to be not a normal person nor a cientist or literate person , but yet sophisticated enough in their mind to understand such language that was spoken when this mark was conciebed .i beleive we all have it , it's in our genes .is up to us to find it or identify it in our own little method of thinking and make it appear.

The interpretation of the story of Cain and Abel in Demian is very similar to the one offered by the Gnostics of early Christian history. It's doubtful that all the element's of Hesse's interpretation are Gnostic, but it certainly stems from the Gnostic's belief that there were those on earth privvy to a divine, though incommunicable, knowledge.
